SUTURE > Polyglycolic acid |
Polyglycolic
Acid
Type |
Braided multifilament |
Composition |
Polyglycolic acid coated with polycaprolactone and calcium
stearate |
Colour |
D & C Violet N° 2 |
Tissue reaction |
Well tolerated by tissues |
Absorption
The hydrolytic action, by which the PGA material is broken
down results in a predictable and progressive lost of tensile
strength followed by its total absorption in 90 days. 50% of
tensile strength remains after 15-18 days. whilst some tensile
strength is retained up to 30 days. |
Virtues |
High tensile strength, well tolerated by tissues, excellent
handling properties, good knot security, reduced capillary
action |
Applications |
General soft tissue approximation including ophthalmic
surgery. Not indicated for cardiovascular and neurological
tissue approximation. |
